Charity Event News
Thank you for everyone involved the charity event and those who donated materials. A big thank you to Chris from Chris Chambers Photography his donation of 50% from the photograph sales raised £85; Louise from Time for You for her lovely hand massages and donation to raffle; and to Jeanette from Virgin Vie for her makeovers and donation to raffle. Despite a small turnout we managed to raise over £250 (the exact amount is unknown as present). Congratulations to Charlie Corbett who raised £40 alone! We had great fun making musical instruments and all the money raised will go to the Lamp Lighters charity, who help children all over the district with a variety of things, such as special wheelchairs and instruments for the blind etc.
Winner of Morris’s sister: Jacob Chambers who guessed Dee (as in D Minor - sorry had to give it a musical flavour!)
Winners of raffle:
Large Disney Tigger: Sadie and Charlie Corbett
Virgin Vie Necklace: Sarah and Jessica Norris
Indian Head Massage Voucher: Holly & Tommy Randall
3 Beanie Soft Toys: Sarah Dykes
Toy Sword: Ian and Rowena
T Shirts and Beanie Bears
T Shirts are now available for all children. Sizes are: 1-2 yrs; 2-3yrs; 3-4yrs; and 5-6yrs. They are available in Blue or White and are £5. Music for Minors now has its own Beanie Bears for sale. They are very cute and make an excellent gift for a birthday! They are now £4.50. If you would like either of these please see me.
Job Opportunity
As you may be aware Music for Minors is growing in size. Over the next few months I am looking to expand into nearby areas and am looking for a special person to run some new classes. You don’t have to be a fantastic singer (just able to sing in tune) or have musical knowledge, but enthusiasm, energy and some experience of being amongst young children is important! If you think you would like to run a class or know anyone who may be interested please come and have a chat.
Making the Most of Music Sessions
During class the most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active and patient role model. It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. Don’t be discouraged - what a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class. Frequent reinforcement at home throughout the week makes all the difference in the child’s comfort and participation in the sessions. Please can I also reiterate how important it is for adults to keep chatting, in music sessions, to a minimum. Young children find it difficult to concentrate and listen, and as role models, we need to ensure we provide the best environment for them to learn.
Health and Safety
Please can I ask everyone to take note of the Health and Safety Policy. Everyone should have had a copy when they first joined but I have attached one to this newsletter as a reminder. It is really important children don’t run around with food, drinks or instruments in class. Please make sure that any snacks be finished prior to a music session and if a child must have a drink please take them to one side. Thank you.
Feedback
I have attached a feedback form to this newsletter I would be very grateful for your comments regarding sessions and any changes you would like to see.
